I really hate when things don’t go the way they are planned. I had zero intention of running today. I might have ended my lifting routine with an up-hill walk or something, but not a run. But I decided to work at home today which means I didn’t have access to my work gym (without going way out of my way). Normally I would go to the local recreation center, but they decided to do a remodel that is going to take 2 years, so they moved a bunch of equipment to another place in the meantime. But was it open today? Nope. It won’t be open for 3 more days. Great.

So I ended up doing some HIIT sprints. I would essentially run for 30 seconds as fast as I could, then walk until my heart-rate was back down to the “fat burning zone.” Once it got there, I would count to 10 while breathing slow and deep to bring my heart rate down a bit more, then sprint for 30 seconds again. I repeated this as much as I could but with STILL very sore legs, it didn’t last more than a couple of miles. I then jogged another mile and walked a couple more and ended up with more than 5 miles on the day.

It wasn’t what I wanted to do, but I still went out and did something. It would be very easy to make an excuse and just sit at home instead, but I pushed through the soreness and the inability to do what I wanted and still got a lot done.

Tomorrow would normally be another run, and since I really have no alternative, it probably will still end up being another run/walk. But we’ll see what happens. Maybe I’ll try to get creative and do some HIIT work or something.
