Ugh… man, what a difference a few months can make. I knew I had let myself go, but I think it is always eye-opening when you finally realize exactly how much. 318 pounds. That is what I weighed this morning before I headed to the gym. That is 53 pounds difference from March when I was at my lowest point, running a half marathon and feeling great.

That is equivalent in weight to over $200 in quarters, a big bag of dog food, two toddlers, a small bale of hay, a 5000 BTU air conditioner, or 8 billion grains of sand (who counted that out?)

But the point of all of this is to change myself and now I know my starting point. And the nice thing about it is that I don’t have an ending point in mind. I am just going to go until I feel that I am where I need to be. Then the real work will begin with learning to maintain. From everything I’ve read (and experienced), maintaining your weight is almost more difficult than losing it.

Not only did I start my exercise again today, I started my nutritional aspect as well. I have decided to go back to the good old classic that I have done quite often which is Intermittent Fasting. I know there have been many studies claiming there are benefits to it, and probably studies saying it is a terrible thing to do, but it is something I find myself doing naturally when I am taking care of myself. I am rarely hungry during the day because I am busy working. So being able to exercise in a fasted state and not eat until later in the afternoon is just the easiest thing for me. It also means that when I get “the munchies” in the evening, I have plenty of calories to work with.

So all-in-all, it was a great way to start this project. I am not feeling lethargic with the lack of calories early in the day, I completed my workout, got all my steps in, tracked all my food, had a proverbial butt-load of water and am ready to move on to day two!

Daily details:
Exercise – 4 miles this morning alternating jogging and walking plus walking on both breaks and my lunch (total of 20,651 steps today)
Tracking food – Done 100% accurately!
250+ Steps – Got 12 out of 14 hours today
Sobriety – 6 days and counting
No soda – Drank nothing but coffee, unsweetened tea and water
