So I never really went into what the yard sale was about that I discussed earlier on. In a nutshell, our shingles and weatherproofing failed early on our roof which caused water to trickle in which eventually turned into a nice, large hole inside our kitchen. Luckily, most of it is being paid for by the insurance, but we still have to foot out the deductible and anything that the insurance adjuster chose not to give us that it may cost over. Since then, I have been covering it with a tarp waiting for the roofer we spoke to to finish what he has already planned and get working on our roof. It works well… until the wind blows. Like it does in Utah. And it’s been blowing quite a bit.
So as I am leaving work and driving through the rainstorm, I am imagining our kitchen flooded as I walk into the house. I pull up, get the stuff out of my truck and run to the back porch. I can’t see what is going on without my ladder which is being used as a clothing rack for the yard sale, so I go and get it and climb up to see. Am I lucky or what? The tarp is covering about 98% of the damaged area still despite all of the wind. I got up there (yeah, I know, don’t do this when it’s raining) and adjusted everything in hopes of a longer lasting dry spell and then hopped down to continue my day.
This makes me think of life in general. The whole “when it rains, it pours” saying. It does seem true for most of us. Or is it? It seems that when things go bad, many things go bad. But do we see the same thing when things are going well? Do we look at the good that is happening and think “Man, every time I turn around something good is happening?” I doubt it. I think we take these things for granted and we should do what we can to start realizing that sometimes it pours good things into our lives and we need to appreciate those times.
It just currently isn’t really one of those times right now.
I did have an interview today (which I hate) and got to get home early (meaning I was at work early) and got to do a little cardio (meaning I couldn’t lift) so it hasn’t all been bad! I only did about 30 minutes of cardio alternating between walking and jogging. I walked quite a bit, have over 13,000 steps for the day and made decent choices with the food. Tomorrow is day 2 of circuit training where I get to focus on biceps/triceps which is my favorite day. So hopefully tomorrow pours some more goodness on me.
