Throwback Thursday

That’s about all that Thursday was.  It was Thursday.  It wasn’t Wednesday, it wasn’t Friday, it was simply Thursday.  Fairly busy day at work which is normal, television and dinner preparations between work and karate, and then 2 hours of karate in the evening.

This is where I start trying to figure out how to make my blog more interesting when it is a lot of repetition.  I had a blog written years ago when I started out at nearly 400 pounds and continued it for a while, but then it seemed that people lost interest and then I lost interest.  Hopefully it won’t happen this time.  Though maybe I need to find other things to write about other than my health adventures.

But it’s Throwback Thursday!  So let me think… 2009 was when I weighed at least 377 pounds (keep in mind that was a month after I started changing my habits so I was probably more) and I was down to 250 pounds by the next year.  I’m not sure why it is taking so much longer this time, but hopefully it will be permanent this time.

Anyway, Thursday’s Kyokushin Karate class was probably the best I’ve been to.  We warmed up with a different person and I was sweating halfway through our warm up!  Then we went through kihon quickly instead of taking our time which gave us more time through the class to work on what we needed to work on.  The only downfall to the class was how many push-ups we had to do.  I think we ended up doing about 150 of them by the end of the night, 100 of those came in one swift blow halfway through the class.  I won’t complain too much, it is important to work on those muscles including hands, knuckles and forearms and doing push-ups is one of the best ways to accomplish that.

I guess there was one other downfall… the class size.  Sometimes there are very few people there – maybe 6 or 7 – and this is perfect for where we are working out.  The room we do it in is fairly small so there isn’t a lot of room once we start getting more and more people.  Thursday we had 17 people crammed into the little room and it made it tough to do anything.  This included using the punching bags.  We put out all 15 (that’s all they have in the fitness room) and there was barely room to move.  I know that bigger is better when it comes to teaching, but I sure wish we could find another place to work out that didn’t have the limitations we endure.  Like my sensai said, we are like gypsy’s… at the mercy of what is available.

Here’s hoping someday we can get a real dojo.

Oh, and back to Wednesday’s post… I didn’t man up and run.  I’m simply going to have to find another way to get my running in.  Maybe on my lifting days I will run after I am done lifting and catch the next train.  That should give me enough time to at least get in a 2 or 3 mile run.  We’ll see how it goes.

Breakfast – Strawberry banana protein shake
Snacks – Cookie, protein bar and chips
Lunch – Chicken quesadillas
Dinner – Baked chicken chimichangas and beans
