No, I don’t want it to go away. I welcome it! I would much rather it rain for days on end than to ever snow. That’s me personally. I know it’s important for it to snow, but if it would only snow in the mountains and rain in the valleys I would be the happiest little boy on planet Pluto. And while I know this won’t ever happen here in the great state of Utah, I can at least enjoy the rain while it’s here.
And it is apparently here for a while.
It’s been raining cats and dogs for about 2 days now and it doesn’t look like it will be letting up anytime soon. According to the forecasts I have seen it will be raining well into the week if not for the entire week. This is fall fine and good and wonderful for our drought-driven state, but it is hell on getting around outside on my own two feet. This morning I decided to tough it out in the rain and went on a quick run. Not only was it raining from above, it felt like it was raining from below as well. I ran through enough puddles that I almost felt like I was back in the Dirty Dash. But that didn’t hold me back. I only got just a hair over a mile done, but not bad for running in 34 degree weather with the rain coming down and the floods coming up.
Noah, save me now.
This weekend was a wonderful weekend. Friday was a fairly normal day at work though it seemed to move rather slow. I got off of work and went to the gym and did a little more than 4 miles on the treadmill all at an incline. I know that is something I really need to work on because races are not all flat, many do go uphill which I still have trouble with. After that, I watched some Fringe with my wife, had dinner with the kids and hit the sack.
Saturday I got up and went to the gym and ran 2 miles before doing some weight lifting. I haven’t lifted in a while so I think I want to get back into doing StrongLifts at least. We then went and saw the Cirque Ziva with the Golden Dragon Acrobats. I have never seen Cirque du Soleil myself so it was quite amazing to see something like that. Bending backwards and putting their chest on the ground, jumping 10 feet in the air and through a hoop, climbing up 50 feet and balancing on their hands… it’s some crazy stuff. Made me feel pretty weak in what I do. I am sure these guys train from the time they are old enough to walk but it is still very impressive.
I then took my wife on a date starting with a pedicure (if you’re a dude and you’re against these, you don’t know what you’re missing), then dinner and finally a movie. We went to see Monuments Men which was really interesting and a pretty good movie. I am not the best at history, probably one of my worst subjects in school, but I do love to learn things I never really knew about. It’s amazing to think how many beautiful pieces of art were destroyed by this insane person and group.
Saturday was also my youngest girls birthday. She turned 7 and is growing up way too fast. As much as kids can be frustrating, as they grow older you realize they will soon be gone.
Sunday was shopping day and the first Sunday in a long time without football. After the Super Bowl I am not too sad to be without football for a little while, but it isn’t going to be long before I am missing it. We also got a free movie rental so I went ahead and picked out Kick Ass 2. Now… Kick Ass is obviously no Blockbuster movie but it is one of my favorite movies. I knew that the second one would not be anywhere near as good but I didn’t know it was simply going to be bad. It wasn’t as “kick ass” as the first, wasn’t as fast-paced and just simply wasn’t as good. So I am glad that it was free, though I probably could have rented something better. We finished the night with a nice family dinner and some more television followed by bed.
The weekends are rarely boring with my family. Sometimes it’s just a lot of television, sometimes it’s more active stuff, sometimes it’s more cerebral stuff. But no matter what it is, it’s far from boring.
An hour+ of walking at work on Friday
4.3 miles on Friday between 0.5% and 6% incline
2 miles on Saturday
30 minutes of lifting (need to get back into this) on Saturday
