HIIT

I’ve bragged a time or two about High Intensity Interval Training.  Originally I only read about it, then I followed the practice and now I am preaching it.  I can attest to how beneficial it is to do.  It is something that really gets your calories burning and can be done quickly.  It’s the perfect remedy for when you are running short on time.  Much like today for myself.

My son had a parent/teacher conference today and being the good guy I am, I decided to go.  I won’t go into how I felt somewhat disappointed that it only lasted about 6 minutes and I could have stayed at the gym longer, but I will say I am always glad to find out my kids are doing well in school or find out what they need to improve on.

Because of this conference I had to find a way to burn as many calories as I could in a short amount of time.  I suppose I could have gone back to the gym after the conference was over, but I had already gone to the gym, came home, showered and changed.  I didn’t feel like sweating some more and having to shower again.HIIT2

I spent only 23 minutes (along with 2 minutes cooling down) on the treadmill.  I alternated between 1 minute and 15 seconds of walking with 45 seconds of running as fast as I could.  I burned more than 1/2 as many calories in 25 minutes as I normally would in an hour.  If you’ve never tried HIIT I would give it a shot.  Use it when you’re short on time, when you want a change of pace or when you just want to burn more calories.

Or when you have a 6 minute meeting.

Meals:

Breakfast – Protein shake
Snack – Protein bar
Lunch – Chicken quesadillas
Dinner – Chicken quesadillas
Snack – Rice crackers
