Ah, another day in the gym. Another day surrounded by meatheads who flex in the mirror every 28.2 seconds and teenagers who think that swinging a dumbbell like a pendulum will actually help them build muscle. That’s right, dude, use your back, hips, thighs and every other part and it will build your biceps. You’re a genius.
I guess I shouldn’t say too much. I’m sure when I was lifting in high school I did a thing wrong here or there. I’m sure I probably do now. But sometimes seeing these guys lift makes me grimace. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t sit and watch everyone else in the gym. I’m there for myself and am focusing on what I am doing. But when I have to wait for someone to finish with a certain piece of equipment or to get out of the way, I can’t help but notice things. I suppose I could offer my help, but I have a feeling these scrawny high school kids would not want to get advice from an overweight, sweaty, 30+ year old man.
But, as usual, I was able to get through my workout fairly well. Unscathed this time (my head still is very tender where I got whacked). The only real irritation is waiting for the one 35 pound dumbbell set to be put back. Everyone seems to love to use it, and while most other weights have 2-3 pairs, this one flies solo.
After the gym my family had a nice meal, my wife and I watched our show (we’re watching 24 now) and then hit the sack for the last day of the work week.
