I’m probably one of the few people in the world who actually likes going to the gym. I am inside so I don’t have to mess with the elements (rain, snow, sun, heat…), there is usually a television somewhere nearby so I can keep up with either Dr. Phil or Sportscenter (guess which one I choose) and the only smell is the smell of sweat and cleaning products (much more pleasant than horse manure or hot asphalt). But there are times when being outside is simply the way to do it.
My wife told me that she wanted to just go for a walk instead of going to the gym on Wednesday. I’m down with that. It doesn’t REALLY matter to me where I workout as long as it gets done. And if I can spend more time walking with my wife and talking to her instead of plugging headphones in and zoning out, so be it. It was a lovely walk along a path we take quite often. The sun was behind clouds, the breeze was nice and cool and the only downside was the sewage smell in one area that is always there.
Sometimes I forget how nice it is just to do things the simple way. Instead of throwing on gym clothes, jumping in the car and heading to the gym, plugging in my headphones, picking a treadmill I like and watching what is on TV I can just… be.
