So I’ve started using public transportation. Not to be Mr. Green or protect the environment (go ahead, hate me now) but to save myself some money and to save myself some miles on my vehicle. I purchased my vehicle in April and have already put over 6,000 miles on it. Much of that is simply driving to and from work which ends up being about 30 miles per day. I found out that my job will reimburse up to $125 per month if you use public transportation so I figured… why not travel to work for free?
Anyway, the station is a little too far to walk to (ends up being about 1.35 miles… not really far, but I am not waking up an extra 30 minutes early to walk) and I don’t have a bicycle yet to ride there, so I still drive to it. But while waiting for it to come in both the morning and afternoon I simply walk. I walk around the platform or I walk around the block… but I just keep on moving. Over the past week that I’ve used the train, I’ve burned an extra 200-400 calories just by doing this. If you’ve ever doubted the “just move more” theory, I’m living proof. It’s that much easier for me to reach my calorie goals and still eat delicious food because I move around instead of sitting and waiting for the train.
Tuesday held some more soreness of the body but didn’t hold me back from the gym. I took it easy and just did some brisk walking and light jogging since I am doing a 5K later this week, but on either Wednesday or Thursday I will run another one at the gym just to prepare a day or three before the race.
